North Island-Powell River MP Rachel Blaney will be using technology to connect with constituents, organizing a number of virtual town hall meetings on Zoom.
According to a media release, the federal riding of North Island-Powell River is the third largest in BC and includes four regional districts, 11 municipalities, 21 First Nations, seven ferry routes and countless islands and inlets. Since the onset of the pandemic, Blaney has stopped travelling to visit many of the small, rural and remote communities in keeping with recommendations of public health officials and out of respect and concern for community safety. Instead, the MP is hosting a series of virtual town halls to hear directly from constituents in communities around the riding.
“I have missed personally visiting with residents in our small and remote communities,” stated Blaney. “It’s one of the things I love most about our riding and my job as MP. While we have many things in common, the issues and concerns in one community or region may not be exactly the same in another, and the experience is very different than that of our larger towns.”
Registration is required for the Zoom meetings. The meeting for Lund, Texada and Savary Island will be held on March 1 at 4:30 pm.
