At a March 6 qathet Regional District (qRD) meeting, the regional board decided to direct staff to implement option two presented in the Organics Diversion on Texada Island report dated February 8 and put the organics collection on Texada on hold until a composting facility is established in qRD; and that staff be directed to then explore the feasibility of options for addressing organics on the island.

The recommended option is to put organics collection on hold until a composting facility is established in the regional district or City of Powell River area. Electoral Area D director Sandy McCormick said right now, staff members are working to get the resource-recovery centre operating, and are dealing with the organics issue on the mainland. She said the motion recognizes dealing with those important things first and then taking a look at what can happen on Texada.
