Powell River Board of Education reports enrolment increase

School District 47’s student population up by 113 year-over-year

At the Powell River Board of Education meeting on November 16, statistics were released comparing the total headcount in School District 47 from September 30, 2022, to the total headcount from September 30, 2021.

Enrolment in local schools was 1,941 in September 2022, compared to 1,864 in September 2021. These numbers do not include 17 French students and 70 international students. When factoring in the Partners in Education program, enrolment figures are 3,202 in September 2022, compared to 3,090 in September 2021.

The board of education also received a report on average class sizes. For kindergarten, the figure is 17.8 students, for grades one to three, 20.3 students, for grades four to seven, 25.4 students, and for grades eight to 12, 20.9 students. Superintendent of schools Dr. Jay Yule said these figures were within provincially mandated maximum class sizes.
