RCMP ask parents to inspect candy after painkillers found

Police are warning parents to carefully check their children’s Halloween treats after they received a report of ibuprofen tablets being resealed into a package of candy.

Powell River RCMP sent the public safety warning out to all schools and asked them to forward the warning on to parents.

Police received a report at 9 am on Tuesday, November 1, that a young teen discovered six brown 400 mg ibuprofen tablets inside a package of Smarties candies. Police have determined that the package was resealed by an unknown person.

According to constable Kerri Chard, the young person had been trick-or-treating along Maple Avenue in Townsite, Manson Avenue in Cranberry and also in the Grief Point area.

Chard said the investigation is ongoing.
