SUSPECT BARRICADED: Powell River RCMP blocked off access to King Avenue on May 4 after a suspect was barricaded in a house in the 6400 block. The emergency response team from Vancouver Island was called to assist with the arrest.

Vancouver Island’s RCMP emergency response team was called to an incident in Wildwood on May 4.

According to a media release from Powell River RCMP, at 5:56 pm on May 3, police responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 6400 block of King Avenue.

The release stated that members of the Powell River RCMP initially responded to the incident and after speaking to witnesses, determined that a suspect was barricaded inside the residence and had access to firearms inside. To ensure the safety of the public and police, the Vancouver Island Emergency Response Team attended the scene to assist with the arrest of the suspect and execution of a search warrant at the residence in the early afternoon on May 4.

“Evidence was located in the residence and a 55-year-old male from Powell River was arrested,” stated constable Chris Bakker, Powell River RCMP media relations officer, in the release. “He is currently facing charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition, and careless storage of a firearm. The male was released from custody on numerous conditions by a judicial justice of the peace and will be appearing in court again at a later date.”
