On March 20, Powell River RCMP received a report that a canoeist navigating the Powell Forest Canoe Route had failed to check in with family for several nights. The family reported that the canoeist had been checking in via GPS with his coordinates each evening and his family was worried that something had happened to him.

Powell River Search and Rescue (SAR) was mobilized and RCMP helicopter Air 8 joined the search late in the afternoon. SAR located the canoeist just before dark and determined he was safe and uninjured.

Police would like to thank Powell River SAR members for their tireless efforts and also everyone else who assisted in helping to locate the canoeist.
