Nicholas Simons was sworn into the BC legislature virtually on November 24, as the newly reelected BC New Democratic Party MLA for Powell River-Sunshine Coast, following the provincial election last month.

The 57 new BC NDP members were sworn in as part of BC’s 42nd parliament, all focused on supporting people through the COVID-19 pandemic and delivering on their commitments to British Columbians, according to a media release from the BC NDP caucus.

“I’m very gratified that people in Powell River-Sunshine Coast have asked me to serve as their representative once again,” stated Simons. “I’m pleased to be able to return to the legislature and take my seat alongside colleagues old and new, and continue our work to make this province a better place.”

The election of this NDP caucus features a number of notable milestones, the release stated, including:

· The first majority-women governing caucus in Canadian history

· Largest BC NDP caucus in history

· Highest number of indigenous, black and people of colour MLAs ever in a caucus in BC

The release stated that British Columbians put their trust in the New Democrats to lead the province’s pandemic recovery, and this diverse team will ensure no one gets left behind as the province moves forward.
