Powell River U15 Kings opened the 2023 BC Hockey Tier 3 provincial championships with a 7-4 win over Terrace on Sunday, March 19.

Beau Jameson Gagne and Carter Stekman led the way offensively for the Kings in the opening game of the tournament at Alberni Valley Multiplex, the host venue in Port Alberni. Gagne recorded a hat-trick while Carter Stekman scored twice and assisted on two other goals.

Chase Fontaine set up two of the tallies for the Kings, who gave up the first goal in a first period where both teams scored twice.

Powell River took over in period two with a trio of goals, then added two more in the final frame sandwiched around two goals in seven seconds by Terrace. Kings' netminder Rowan Jones earned the win in goal.

Ryan Marshman, Keaton Bryce, Connal Miller, Paxton Schreiber and Eugene Souch picked up assists for the Kings, who face Whitehorse Mustangs in their next contest at 8:30 am on Monday, March 20.

Powell River earned its way into the tournament by winning the Vancouver Island Amateur Hockey Association Tier 3 championship.
