Powell River's First Credit Union receives recognition

GIVEN AWARD: First Credit Union made the grade in the annual Canada’s Top 100 employers competition, recognizing its efforts to foster a healthy, vibrant and engaged workforce.

First Credit Union was recognized, for the second year in a row, as one of BC’s top employers for 2023 by MediaCorp Canada Inc, organizers of the annual Canada’s Top 100 Employers competition.

According to a media release from First Credit Union (FCU), receiving this award celebrates its ongoing efforts to foster a healthy, vibrant and engaged workforce.

“We are grateful to our employees for making this recognition possible and proud to be part of an organization that truly puts people first," stated Linda Bowyer, chief executive officer of First Credit Union. "We strive to create a work environment that not only drives business success, but also empowers and inspires our employees, so this is very special. Achieving this distinction is a proud recognition of the positive impact our values have on creating a supportive, inclusive and purpose-driven workplace.”

The release stated that now in its 18th year, BC’s top employers award recognizes the provinces employers that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which organizations offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs, the release stated. First Credit Union stands out as a top employer based on a supportive work atmosphere, responsive health, financial and family benefits, as well as opportunities for training and skills development, and community involvement, according to the release.

“We are proud to be leading the way in creating a work environment that supports the personal and professional growth of our team, while making a positive difference in our communities," stated FCU chief people officer Charlene Reinisch. "We are honoured and grateful to receive this recognition."

The release stated that FCU is a values-based financial cooperative serving the needs of more than 15,000 members in Powell River, on Texada Island, in Courtenay, Cumberland, Union Bay and Bowser, and on Hornby and Bowen islands.
