The historic district of Townsite will soon have two large water boxes, located on the corner of Timberlane and Larch avenues at Hemlock Street, wrapped with works from two qathet artists chosen by Townsite Ratepayers Society (TRS) in a public art competition launched earlier this year.
TRS president Stephen Miller said the chosen artists were Autumn Skye, for her works titled The Fellowship and Song of the Makers, and Brian McCormick, for his work titled Townsite Village.
"The impetus of the project was to beautify Townsite with public art and to continue raising the awareness of Townsite’s cultural heritage in British Columbia," stated Miller in an email.
The first public art unveiling will take place on Wednesday, July 31, at 10 am, at Hemlock Street and Larch Avenue, with a second unveiling taking place at 10:30 am, at Timberlane Avenue and Hemlock Street.
Funding was provided by Powell River Community Forest and qathet Art, with installation of the artwork by Guy Mercier from J&D Signs.
