COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS: Gaming grants will provide funds to three local organizations to carry on public safety and environmental initiatives, according to Powell River – Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons.

Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons has indicated that local organizations will be able to protect local ecosystems and keep people safe through the community gaming grants program for environmental and public safety initiatives.

"Our government understands the important role that local organizations play in community safety," stated Simons in a media release. "Funding local organizations will help ensure that volunteers are ready and able to keep people safe." 

Locally, the following community organizations are receiving funding for public safety work, which can include restorative justice, firefighting, search and rescue, emergency preparedness and community safety.

qathet Community Radio Society will receive $4,000. Powell River Search and Rescue Society will receive $95,500.

The following local organization is receiving funding for environmental initiatives, such as animal protection, conservation and environmental awareness programs: Powell River Orphaned Wildlife Society will be granted $9,500.

According to the release, more than $12 million in new funding for public safety and environment programs will support 281 nonprofit organizations that are helping make life better for people throughout BC.
