qathet Regional District approves multiple grants-in-aid

Directors vote unanimously for appropriations

PROVIDING FUNDS: qathet Regional District’s board of directors, after extensive presentations and discussions at the finance committee stage, approved a number of grant applications that will disburse money throughout the region, including Savary Island Land Trust.

qathet Regional District (qRD) has approved a number of grants-in-aid for its first intake of financial assistance for 2022.

At the May 26 regional board meeting, directors voted unanimously for the appropriations. The following are the grant applications.

Powell River Outdoor Recreation Users Group received $15,000 for general operating costs.

Powell River Search and Rescue Society received $66,000 for the purchase of new outerwear.

Powell River Therapeutic Riding Association received $4,500.

Savary Island Land Trust received $5,000 for the organization’s 2022 sustainability events.

Pacific Region International Summer Music Association received $20,000 for the 2022 festival.

Powell River Orphaned Wildlife Society received $10,000 for general operating costs.

The board denied a request from Powell River Sports Hall of Fame.

Powell River Festival of the Performing Arts received $750.

qathet Symphony Orchestra received $500 for general operating costs.

Texada Arts, Culture and Tourism Society received $12,000 for 2022 events.

The board denied a request from Zachery’s Social Network Society.

Texada Island Dragon Boat Club received $3,000 for the purchase of a new trailer.

The board denied a request from Royal Canadian Legion Texada Island Branch 232.

Lasqueti Island Nature Conservancy received $2,000 for general operating costs.

Powell River Youth and Family Services received $12,102 for the Orca Bus program.

Everybody Deserves a Smile Community Projects Society received $1,614.

Powell River and District Christmas Cheer received $806 for general operating costs.

The board denied a request from Powell River and District United Way.

Texada Island Nonprofit Seniors Housing Society received $5,000 for 2022 and the board approved a grant of $20,000 in January 2023.

Canadian Red Cross Ukraine humanitarian crisis fund received $1,000 from Electoral Area E (Lasqueti Island) grants-in-aid.

Lift Community Services received $50,000 for the Community Resource Centre, qathet Community Justice and Trans-qathet.
