Storage approved
qathet Regional District directors have approved a request to locate a 20-foot storage container behind the community hall on Texada Island.
At the August 27 regional board meeting, directors carried a motion based on a request from the Texada Island Community Society and Sandcastle Weekend to place the storage container behind Texada Community Hall. Additionally, the board has directed staff to arrange with the society so it has adequate liability insurance.
Court resurfacing
The board has directed staff to seek funding opportunities to resurface the Texada Island tennis courts in Gillies Bay.
Committee investigation
Staff have been directed to investigate barriers contributing to the inactivity of the solid waste management plan monitoring advisory committee, including, but not limited to: recruitment challenges, member retention, meeting logistics and scope of mandate. Staff will report back with findings and recommended solutions to support the reactivation and sustainability of the committee.
Chair attending
The board has also requested staff to fill out the nomination form to confirm Electoral Area C director and board chair Clay Brander will attend the Community Energy Association Union of British Columbia Municipalities event.
Permit considered
At the August 26 planning meeting, the committee recommended to the board that qRD advise the minister of mining and critical minerals that it has no objection to the notice of work for a two-year sand and gravel permit on district lot 3816 in Electoral Area C, with the recommendation that the ministry consider three conditions. These included: wherever possible, a vegetative screen should be maintained between the subject site and Duck Lake, as well as adjacent private properties; ongoing restoration and rehabilitation of the land be performed, as opposed to such action at the time of project completion; that the applicant obtains a completed riparian area assessment by a qualified environmental professional to determine any impact to potential riparian areas on the subject site.
Subdivision reviewed
The planning committee recommended to the board that qRD advise the ministry of transportation and transit that it supports the proposed two-lot conventional subdivision application for property located at 4474, 4479, 4486,4501, 4506 and 4520 McLeod Road, subject to two conditions: proof of water and septic servicing for each of the existing dwellings and serviced buildings that meets provincial standards; and that the applicant be recommended to obtain a site-level assessment conducted by a qualified professional to assess the flood hazard at the rear of the proposed lot one prior to final subdivision approval.
