Approves application
At the Wednesday, September 18, qathet Regional District meeting, directors approved a housing needs grant application. The board carried a motion that staff be directed to partner with City of Powell River to apply for a $60,000 Union of BC Municipalities grant to complete a regional housing needs assessment report in 2020.

Paving project
The regional board carried a motion to direct staff to seek estimates and allocate sufficient funding from the Malaspina Volunteer Fire Department service in the 2020 draft budget to pave the regional district’s portion of Fire Hall #2 access, and that the regional district request the provincial ministry of transportation and infrastructure to pave its section of McLeod Road. The board also voted that the regional district collaborate with the ministry of transportation and infrastructure so both sections can be paved together.

Dumping strategy
Regional directors carried a motion that staff be directed to consider Padgett – West Hammil Lake as part of the development of the regional district’s illegal dumping strategy.

Annual conference
The board has approved that staff apply to Union of BC Municipalities for grant funding under the asset management planning program for 50 per cent funding of the estimated $6,075 cost to send five staff members to the 2019 asset management annual conference to take place on November 6 and 7, 2019.
