Exchange program
At the Thursday, January 30, qathet Regional District (qRD) board meeting, directors voted that the board offer a minimum of 30 rebates on a first-come, first served basis of $400 for the exchange of an uncertified wood stove to an EPA-certified wood stove, and $550 for an exchange of an uncertified wood stove to an EPA-certified pellet-fuelled appliance, a natural gas or propane-fuelled appliance, electric fireplace insert or an electric pump in the 2020 wood stove exchange program.
Poverty grant
Regional directors have voted that the regional board authorize a partnership with the City of Powell River to make an application for a $50,000 Union of British Columbia Municipalities (UBCM) poverty reduction planning and action program grant. The board also voted that the board support the City of Powell River as the primary applicant to apply for, receive and manage the grant funding to complete a qathet region poverty reduction plan.
Flood assessment
The regional board endorsed an application to the UBCM community emergency preparedness fund flood risk assessment, flood mapping and flood mitigation planning funding stream for coastal flood mapping for the island communities within the qRD. The board has endorsed the qRD providing overall grant management for this project.
Inclusion grant
Regional directors have voted to provide $5,000 assistance through its grant-in-aid program to inclusion Powell River Society for the 2020 Cranberry Child Development Centre refurbishment, and that it be paid in March 2020.
