Increase approved
qathet Regional District directors have voted in favour of the directors’ remuneration and expenses bylaw.
At the December 15 regional board meeting, directors voted for a 2.1 per cent increase to directors’ remuneration, which goes into effect January 1, 2022. The increase is based on the consumer price index for British Columbia for the preceding 12-month period ending September 30.
Remove garage
The regional board voted to respectfully request Aubrey and Betty Rodgers remove their partially completed garage structure from qathet Regional District’s property at 3164 Bradford Road, and that all costs associated with removal of the structure be paid for by the Rodgers.
Renewal opposed
A vote was passed to not renew the Powell River Fire Rescue and Malaspina Volunteer Fire Department automatic aid agreement.
Program renewed
qathet Regional District’s wood stove exchange program has been renewed for 2022. The board voted to offer rebates on a first-come, first-served basis in the amount of $400 for the exchange of an uncertified wood stove to an EPA-certified wood stove; $550 for the exchange of an uncertified wood stove to an EPA-certified pellet-fuelled appliance or electric fireplace insert; and $750 for an electric heat pump in the 2022 wood stove exchange program. The board also voted to exclude fossil-fuelled appliances as acceptable replacement options in the rebate program.
Accessibility addressed
The board is requesting a report from staff identifying what and how qathet Regional District assets could be addressed for accessibility. The board also voted to consider directing staff to create and maintain an inventory of suggested improvements and present them annually to budget deliberations for the purpose of including a few projects in annual work plans, ultimately striving for accessibility within the regional district.
Wants ban
A motion was passed to send a resolution to the Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities 2022 convention requesting federal and provincial governments to prohibit the use of expanded polystyrene in the marine environment.
