Receives report
At the August 25 qathet Regional District board meeting, the regional board received the staff report regarding the Western Forest Products notice of intent to apply for a refuse permit under provisions of the Environmental Management Act to accommodate a wood waste landfill in the Stillwater area between Dixon Sort Road and Whittall Creek in Electoral Area C. The board has no jurisdiction or input into the location of a wood waste landfill at the proposed site.

At the August 16 qathet Regional District planning committee meeting, directors received a delegation from WFP representatives to outline the proposal, which has plans to dispose of an estimated 6,000 cubic metres per year of wood waste on a parcel of crown land approximately four hectares in size.

Funding sought
Also at the August 25 meeting, staff were directed to apply for funding from the provincial community wood smoke reduction program for 2023, and that $10,250 be included in the 2023 solid waste management service budget for advertising, education and awareness, and rebate top-ups for the program.

At the August 17 finance committee meeting, directors were given an overview from Let’s Talk Trash team member Abby McLennan, who said this was the same program as in years past with some small updates.
