PATRICIA PROJECT: Providing funds to Powell River Film Society for the Patricia Theatre heritage development project was one of the grants-in-aid service recommendations passed at a recent qathet Regional District finance committee meeting.

qathet Regional District’s (qRD) finance committee will be recommending that the regional board approve several applications for grants-in-aid.

At the November 17 finance committee meeting, directors considered eight applications, approving six.

The first application for financial assistance was from Powell River Orphaned Wildlife Society (PROWLS). The recommendation was that the committee recommend the board approve a grant of $8,500 to PROWLS for general operating costs from the general grants-in-aid service. The committee voted three in favour and four against, so the recommendation was defeated.

A grant of $237.25 to the Texada agriculture group was recommended by the finance committee for board approval. The contribution would come from the Electoral Area D grants-in-aid service. The funds would contribute to general operating costs.

The committee recommended the board approve a $1,000 grant to the Lasqueti Internet Access Society for general operating costs, with funds coming from the Electoral Area E grants-in-aid service.
