qathet Regional District chair Clay Brander will join a steering committee for the post-secondary planning process in the qathet region being carried out by Vancouver Island University.

At the August 23 regional board meeting, directors reviewed correspondence from the university, indicating the tiwšɛmawtxw campus is heading into a 14-month planning process with the intention of creating a road map for future post-secondary delivery in the region. School District 47, Lift Community Services, WorkBC, Vancouver Coastal Health and Tla’amin Nation have all accepted invitations, and inclusion Powell River and City of Powell River have also been invited.

Electoral Area D director Sandy McCormick said this is a really good move.

“By analyzing the need for the workforce, we are going to have much better programs for solving some of the problems we are currently facing,” added McCormick.
