qathet Regional District’s committee of the whole is recommending the regional board direct staff to renew the emergency response services agreement with the Canadian Red Cross.

At the December 8 committee of the whole meeting, a staff report indicated that the five-year agreement with Canadian Red Cross expires December 31. The report stated renewal would continue the provision of emergency support services for residents impacted throughout the regional district, delivered directly by the Canadian Red Cross. The services typically involve assisting with the provision of temporary lodging, food and clothing if necessary, and can extend to emotional support, pet care and other incidental temporary needs.

Under the existing agreement, the Canadian Red Cross has responded in support of residents primarily affected by structure fires, though there have been responses in support of residents impacted by localized landslides. The proposed agreement has a $15,000 annual cost.
