BC Ferries is hosting information sessions about its terminal upgrade plans and short-term dock closures scheduled for early next year.

A meeting will be held tonight, Wednesday, August 14 at the Powell River Town Centre Hotel. Another meeting takes place on Thursday, August 15 at the Gillies Bay community hall on Texada Island. Both meetings are scheduled from 7 to 9 pm.

Both the Westview and Little River terminals will be closed temporarily during the upgrade project. BC Ferries is planning alternate service.

Guilty plea

A Lower Sunshine Coast woman has pled guilty to a child pornography charge.

Gibsons resident Kelly Adams, 39, entered a guilty plea in Sechelt provincial court on one count of possession of child pornography July 31. Adams was charged in August 2012 after a joint investigation involving Sunshine Coast and Powell River RCMP with Vancouver Police and BC Integrated Child Exploitation Unit. Powell River RCMP executed a search warrant for a residence on Texada Island. RCMP report that the children depicted in the evidence were not local. Adams will be sentenced November 6.

Setting it straight

• Powell River and Region Transition House Society is a member of Health Sciences Association, part of the Community Social Services Bargaining Association of Unions. However, Powell River Community Services Association is not a member, as incorrectly stated in an article in last week’s Peak.

• The amount of funding deficit in basic pension benefits in the municipal pension plan is $1.024-billion, not $1.024-million as stated last week in the viewpoint.
