Counterfeiters

Two former Powell Riverites have been arrested on fraud, possession of counterfeit currency and property obtained by crime charges.

Roy Gene Hopkins, 45 and Linda Marie Solowan, 50, face multiple fraud and counterfeit charges. Powell River RCMP arrested the pair on August 16.

Police are advising all businesses to be aware of the counterfeit American $50 bills that were being passed out and to contact the RCMP immediately if bills with any of the following serial numbers are found: JK19988474A, JK19988476A or JK19988477A.

Vancouver police and the RCMP are investigating after Hopkins and Solowan bought a car in Vancouver with the fake bills and used the cash in various businesses in the Lower Mainland and Powell River.

Road delays

BC’s ministry of forests, lands and natural resource operations are advising  backcountry travellers to expect delays on the forestry road to Inland Lake while it installs two bridges and completes fish habitat enhancement.

From August 15 to September 3, the ministry is advising drivers to expect short delays while crews prepare the project, then the road will be closed from September 4 to 25. During that period there will be no vehicle access to Inland Lake Provincial Park, Haywire Bay Regional Park or School District 47’s wilderness camp.
