Saltery Bay to Horseshoe Bay can be a race against time for people trying to make the connection from Powell River to the Lower Mainland on BC Ferries.
A new pilot project being launched on Wednesday, March 21, will be a test to see if the trip can be made easier and safer.
Passengers arriving at Saltery Bay at least 30 minutes prior to departure, who have a reservation on the next connected sailing out of Langdale for Horseshoe Bay, will be able to disembark first at Earls Cove.
Boarding is not assured. Vehicles cannot bump the line at Saltery Bay if the Island Sky is at full capacity prior to their arrival at the terminal. There is also a requirement for passengers to inform the Saltery Bay ticket agent, who must confirm the reservation and the name it is under. Cutoff time for reservations at Langdale is when the ship arrives in dock.
The trial project, which is only for southbound traffic, will continue through April.
