Ongoing issues with the door and main controller continue to disrupt elevator service aboard the Island Sky ferry on the Saltery Bay to Earls Cove run.

The elevator has been out of service since May 9 and BC Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall said she does not know when it will return to service. The problems with the door and controller have been ongoing since the elevator’s installation and the elevator will be replaced in January 2012.

Work to temporarily return the elevator to service is ongoing by the manufacturer and KONE Elevators but there is no official return-to-service date. The Bowen Queen will replace the vessel on its route while the elevator is replaced in January.

The elevator aboard the Queen of Burnaby was also down for the day on Wednesday, July 13 after sustaining damage to the door due to vandalism.
