Marine traffic accident

Officials diverted traffic from the 4700 block of Marine Avenue Monday afternoon, April 29, due to a traffic accident. Members of Powell River RCMP, Powell River Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance Service attended the scene of the incident.

A blue pickup truck jumped forward and struck two cars parked on Marine. Ambulance paramedics attended to one person who was injured in the incident. There was damage done to the cars.

The major concern was traffic and it was diverted away from the area.

Heavy traffic

BC Ferries has advised travellers taking the 10:10 am sailing from Comox and the 8:45 pm sailing from Powell River on Wednesday, May 1, to expect heavy traffic.

Brooks Secondary School is hosting the North Island Secondary Schools Regional Track and Field Championships and expects 337 athletes from schools on Vancouver Island to attend the meet. Brooks’ track team will compete in the event.

The track meet will take place at Timberlane Park and will include students from grade eight through to grade 12.

Directors adopt plan

Powell River Regional District directors adopted the official community plan (OCP) for Area C at the April 25 board meeting. Directors made no comments about the plan.

The regional district started reviewing the existing OCP that encompasses both Area B and Area C in 2008. After the review stalled, staff recommended that there should be two separate OCPs for each area.

Directors adopted the Area B OCP at the March board meeting.
