Strike looms

Canada Post workers are prepared to go on strike if they don’t reach an agreement with Canada Post by Thursday night.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has filed notice that puts it in a legal position to strike on Thursday, June 2 at 11:59 pm (Eastern daylight time). The union made a final offer to Canada Post, which the Crown corporation said does nothing to address the significant challenges facing the company.

If there is a strike, mail and parcels won’t be delivered.

HST changes

BC’s government has promised to cut the HST to 10 per cent, provide rebates to families with children under 18 and low-income seniors and increase corporate tax rates if the public votes to keep the tax.

A mail-in referendum on whether to scrap the HST and revert back to a combination of the PST and GST will run June 13 to July 22.
