Powell River RCMP report a local Powell River resident was scuba diving in the area of Rainbow Falls. While underwater the diver noted what appeared to be human remains.
On April 16, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, the BC Coroners Service and local investigators attended Powell Lake and recovered human remains from the lake bottom. It appears the remains have been in the lake for some time and are not immediately identifiable. The remains are currently secured at Powell River General Hospital.
Powell River RCMP have reviewed all outstanding missing persons files and have determined the remains may be related to a missing person investigation opened in 1984. RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are taking steps to identify the remains prior to releasing any further information and are continuing the investigation into the cause and circumstances around the death.
