At the Tuesday, April 21, City of Powell River committee of the whole meeting, Ray Boogaards, director of parks, recreation and culture, recommended that a temporary dog park be created at the former Max Cameron Secondary School site. He also asked that a public consultation process be held, as part of the regional recreation initiative public meetings, to ask for public input for the need of a dog park and unleashed dog areas in existing parks.

Boogaards said a couple of years ago a dog park was created in the Townsite area, at Henderson Park.

“The site was chosen for one reason, and that was because of fencing around the park,” he said. “This was the only park in the Townsite area for the residents to use. So we have to decide if that is the best use of a public park.”

The property the city owns at the former Max Cameron site might be viable as a temporary and possibly long-term solution.

The matter has been referred to city council.

Tax time extends

For anyone rushing to file their income tax papers before April 30, news of an error at Canada Revenue Agency will cause a sigh of relief.

The deadline has been extended to midnight Tuesday, May 5 due to incorrect notification to filers placed on its website last week.

Setting it straight

A story reporting on the federal budget, published as the Quick Peak in the April 22 Peak, contained the incorrect limit of contributions that can be placed annually into tax-free savings accounts. The correct limit is $10,000 effective for the 2015 taxation year.
