New proposal
A group of four Conservative MPs has proposed a new configuration of some BC federal electoral ridings that will keep Powell River together with the lower Sunshine Coast, instead of putting it in Vancouver Island North.
John Weston, John Duncan, James Lunney and Mark Strahl presented the solution individually to the standing committee in the House of Commons, the group which is studying the proposal from the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for BC. Their proposal is to put Courtenay back in Vancouver Island North, keep Powell River in West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast-Sea to Sky Country, change the proposed boundaries in the Nanaimo area to add more population to Nanaimo-Alberni and move Whistler to Pemberton in a proposed new riding called Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon.
The committee will produce a report on all of its deliberations for the boundaries commission, which makes the final ruling.
