Greens visit

In preparation for October’s federal elections, the Federal Green Party Association for North Island-Powell River riding will meet in Powell River on Sunday, March 1.

In a press release, association CEO Sue Moen states her party is eager to connect with all of the communities in the newly formed federal riding.

The event on March 1 will be set up as a meet and greet, with an opportunity to explore the party’s platform and what voting Green could mean.

“More and more people are thinking of the Green Party as the party of the future,” said Moen. “The Green Party is different from other parties in many important ways. We will never place the pursuit of power above principle. We will not allow partisan politics to get in the way of good ideas and needed action. We agree with Canadians who say it’s time for parties in parliament to stop bickering and get on with the job of governing, combating climate change and taking better care of our environment, our health and our economy.”

The event will explore community actions required to address issues such as local economy and jobs, environment, and the ability for citizens to participate in democracy. The Green’s strategic plan will be presented and attendees will be asked for input. People are also being sought for executive positions in the association, and for possible candidates to run in the federal election. An informal discussion and snacks will follow the formal part of the meeting.

The Green Party of Canada meet and greet will take place from 1 to 3 pm on Sunday, March 1, at Cranberry Seniors’ Centre, 6792 Cranberry Street.
