Union agreement Powell River Regional District and CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) Local 798 have reached a three-year collective agreement. It provides wage increases of 1.25, 1.50 and two per cent for 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Powell River Regional District and CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) Local 798 have reached a three-year collective agreement. It provides wage increases of 1.25, 1.50 and two per cent for 2011, 2012 and 2013.

Frances Ladret, regional district administrator, said the only other new part of the agreement was the requirement for the employer to develop job descriptions. The agreement applies to office staff, park caretakers and labourers.


Tax increase

Preliminary City of Powell River 2011 budget information indicates a 3.5 per cent tax increase for residential properties and one per cent for businesses.

City councillors reviewed finances at a committee-of-the-whole budget meeting on January 27. They agreed to refer a staff recommendation to reduce the city’s flat tax by five per cent to council.
