One of six candidates seeking the leadership of the BC Liberal Party visited Powell River on Saturday, January 15.
Ed Mayne is currently mayor of Parksville. He told members of the Powell River Sunshine Coast Liberal Riding Association that he had been to every community in Canada with a population over 10,000 during his time with large fast-food chains. Powell River was the only community in that range he had not visited.
Mayne said he wants to transform government into a representative democracy with free votes in the legislature. He supports the HST and maintaining the voting date of September 23, 2011.
“Politicians worry more about the next election,” he said, adding that he believes leaders should “worry more about the next generation.”
Riding members chose delegates to attend an extraordinary convention on February 12 to determine the leadership voting process.
