City of Powell River council awarded a contract for pile driving, part of the south harbour expansion project at the January 20 meeting. The contract went to Ruskin Construction Ltd. for a bid price of $294,589, plus a 10 per cent contingency.

The city received two bids for the project. The other bid was from Fraser River Pile and Dredge (GP) Inc., for $471,736.


Tax values

Residential values increased by 3.5 per cent in the 2011 completed assessment roll, according to a Powell River Regional District staff report. Residential values in the City of Powell River and Electoral Areas B, C and D had increases of about five per cent while Area A decreased and Area E, Lasqueti Island, stayed the same.

Utilities class values increased by 56 per cent, as a result of Plutonic Power Corporation’s Toba-Montrose project. However, the company is appealing its assessment.
