Assessments fall

Assessment notices were sent out to property owners in the Powell River region this week.

A January 2 media release from the BC Assessment office stated that assessments for this year remained stable or decreased slightly.

“Most homes...remained stable in value compared to last year’s assessment roll,” said Vancouver Island regional acting assessor Bill Dawson.

Modest changes in the -15 per cent to +15 per cent range are being reported from recipients of the assessments, which were delivered over the past week.

Market trends for single-family dwellings decreased 1.71 per cent to $212,300 from $216,000 in 2012, whereas values for a strata condominium decreased 3.88 per cent to $131,300 from $136,600.

“Property owners who believe their property assessment does not reflect market value as of July 1, 2013, or see incorrect information on their notice, should contact BC Assessment as indicated in their notice as soon as possible in January,” said Dawson.

“If a property owner is still concerned about their assessment after speaking to one of our appraisers, they may submit a notice of complaint [Appeal] by January 31, for an independent review by a Property Assessment Review Panel.”
