Mouldy jackets

BC Ferries had to close the forward lounge on the Queen of Burnaby for part of the July 23 to 24 weekend to remove mould from a lifejacket locker.

Water from condensation on a pipe in an adjacent fan room leaked onto the carpet. Mould developed over what Deborah Marshall, BC Ferries spokesperson, estimates as the course of one week.

BC Ferries called in an outside company to do the cleaning and of the 450 lifejackets held in the locker about 50 had to be replaced due to the mould.

The cleaning caused no delay to service.
