Hunt changes

Sea Fair treasure hunt is following a different format this year. In the past, Peak readers have been given twice-weekly clues from Salty Dog that help them find the treasure buried somewhere in the community. The treasure included Sea Fair Dollars and a variety of coupons from local businesses.

“This year we would like to have a scavenger-style hunt that happens at 6 pm on Sea Fair Friday [July 24] down at Willingdon Beach,” said Powell River Sea Fair Society president Jenny Garden. “We’re inviting people to come hunting a different way.”

For more information, readers can go to the Sea Fair website.

Sinking feeling

Aged infrastructure is to blame for a small sinkhole that was discovered on a northbound section of Highway 101 near Cedar Street in Townsite. “It was an old culvert that collapsed,” said Clint Monson, area manager for BC ministry of transportation and infrastructure. “It’ll be replaced within a couple [of] weeks.” Traffic was briefly reduced to a singe lane while workers installed a temporary patch, Thursday, July 2.

Setting it straight

A story on the Great Canadian Ride, published on June 30, incorrectly identified École Côte-du-Soleil as French immersion. École Côte-du-Soleil is a Francophone school. The Peak regrets this error.

Back on board

Malaspina Coach Lines is up and running again after a full service disruption that began on June 20. A new schedule is listed on its website.
