Plan agreement

After years of dissension, Powell River Regional District directors passed a motion at the June 23 board meeting finalizing the text of the solid waste management plan without discussion.

The revision includes the following statement about former landfill sites and the waste transfer site within the City of Powell River boundaries: “The regional district will develop closure plans in cooperation with the City of Powell River for the two former dumpsites and the incinerator site as part of implementing this plan.”

The regional district will now submit the draft plan to BC’s ministry of environment for final approval.
