Audits miss region

Powell River local governments are not among the 17 BC cities, towns and regional districts that will be audited by the Auditor General for Local Governments (AGLG).

The audits will rate local governments on the following topics: getting value for money in operational procurement (Vernon, Delta, Revelstoke, Comox Valley Regional District, Fraser-Fort George Regional District, West Vancouver); managing policing agreements and police budget oversight (Port Alberni, Surrey, Merritt, Williams Lake, Victoria and New Westminster); and capital procurement projects and asset management programs (Cranbrook, Rossland, Sechelt, District of North Vancouver, Dawson Creek and Campbell River).

Reports on the audits will be released on March 31, 2014. KPMG and Grant Thornton will assist with the projects.

The AGLG also plans to begin audits on local governments and clean drinking water and how small communities can manage the risks of limited human resources.

The office of the AGLG was created this January to examine the spending of municipal-level governments.
