Rolling strike
Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) began a series of rotating strikes on Friday, June 3. Negotiations between Canada Post and the union continued throughout the weekend. According to the CUPW’s website, the union’s national executive board will select future locations for strike activity based on developments at the bargaining table.
Post offices that are operational will continue to accept mailings, deliver mail and perform their usual daily tasks. This would change if a national strike is declared.
Credit card scam
Scammers trying to obtain credit card security codes are contacting Powell River residents. A caller promises lower interest rates on credit card balances and then asks for the security code.
The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre has issued an alert about the scam and advises people not to give out any personal information over the phone.
