Provincial grant

A Powell River project is one of 81 in BC that is receiving a grant from the provincial government.

School District 47’s Tools of Change is receiving $15,000 to bring up to 60 youth who have been affected by bullying together with skilled workshop facilitators, musicians, artists and outdoor educators. A transformative, two-day summit will culminate in a community event showcasing the anti-bullying work completed by summit participants.

The grants to school-led anti-bullying initiatives are funded from $1 million from civil forfeiture proceeds. The projects are related to combating bullying, youth crimes, violence against women and family violence, human trafficking and sexual exploitation and community crime, as well as for police training and equipment.

BC releases ferries’ report

BC’s ministry of transportation and infrastructure released the Coastal Ferries Consultation and Engagement summary report on Tuesday, March 5. It summarizes input received during an eight-week public consultation process conducted in the fall of 2012.

A ministry release stated the government “will take the time necessary to thoroughly review the feedback and develop a plan for service adjustments to achieve $26 million in savings to 2016.”

The report can be found online.

Time to spring ahead

Powell River residents will be moving their clocks one hour ahead before going to sleep Saturday night.

Daylight saving time officially starts at 2 am on Sunday, March 10.

While everyone loses an hour of sleep, it will be light later in the day.
