Catalyst pushes meeting date

Catalyst Paper Corporation has once again announced that the meetings of its secured and unsecured creditors to consider the plan of arrangement under the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act have been rescheduled. The meetings are now scheduled for May 23. They were previously scheduled for May 18.

“Our discussions are continuing toward the possibility of amending the current plan of arrangement which would better enable Catalyst to emerge from creditor protection on a stronger financial footing,” said Kevin Clarke, Catalyst president and CEO. “The additional time is intended to permit these discussions to be successfully completed.”

It is anticipated that the court date to sanction and approve the plan of arrangement will be rescheduled to May 25.

Labour board reviews request

A Labour Relations Board (LRB) decision on whether withdrawal from volunteer extracurricular activities by BC teachers constitutes an illegal strike may come down this week.

BC Public School Employers’ Association (BCPSEA) is challenging the BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF) position that duties outside school bells are optional. A majority of BCTF members voted mid-April in favour of a BCTF action plan to protest provincial government legislation that included withdrawal from extracurricular activities. BCPSEA filed an application challenging that position with the LRB last week.

The contract dispute between teachers and the government began more than a year ago.
