Police nab six in drug bust

Four people are in custody after police executed a warrant on a residence in the 6900 block of Alberni Street on Thursday, May 24.

Powell River RCMP seized a 2009 Ford truck, a 2002 Chevrolet car and a 21-foot fishing boat as proceeds of crime, in addition to a significant amount of cash and a small amount of drugs from the residence.

Darryl Hawkins and Tracy Bernard have been arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Wayne Anderson has been arrested and charged with trafficking of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Nathen Morell has been arrested on warrants from Vancouver Island and charged with obstruction of a police officer.

Mark Drakes has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and breach of a recognizance.

A 48-year-old female was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance, but her name can not be released as charges have not yet been forwarded.

Hawkins, Anderson, Drakes and Morell have all been remanded in custody until May 30 when they appear in court.


Family Day

BC Premier Christy Clark has announced the first Family Day holiday will be February 11, 2013.

The government decided on the second Monday in February after a public consultation process.

Canadian Federation of Independent Business estimates the holiday will cost an average small business an extra $1,135 for labour and other expenses.
