Natural gas
FortisBC has filed an application with the British Columbia Utilities Commission (BCUC) to reconsider its recent decision that denied the utility’s request to amalgamate its three gas utilities and adopt common rates throughout its gas service areas.
In April 2012, FortisBC filed an application with BCUC to amalgamate its three gas utilities: FortisBC Energy Inc.; FortisBC Energy (Vancouver Island) Inc.; and FortisBC (Whistler) Inc. The application also proposed common rates for all FortisBC natural gas customers in a given rate class anywhere in the combined service territory, which includes Powell River.
In February 2013, the BCUC denied the application.
Taste of summer
Powell River had a taste of early summer this week as the mercury jumped into the mid-20s. Temperatures even broke records.
John Ede, weather observer at the Powell River weather station, said Sunday’s high of 26.4 °C broke the previous high of 25 °C set on May 5, 1966 and 1990 and Monday’s high of 26 °C broke the record set in 1972. “It’s definitely out of the ordinary for the temperature to jump up like that,” said Ede. Weather forecasters are predicting the sunny weather to stick around until Friday with temperatures cooling slightly as the week progresses.
