Water act input
BC’s government has released a draft water sustainability act and is asking members of the public to provide input on the proposed legislation.
The proposed act updates and replaces the existing act, which is 104 years old. It makes improvements in seven key areas, including regulating and protecting groundwater, protecting stream health and aquatic environments, considering water in land-use decisions, regulating water use during times of scarcity, improving security, water use efficiency and conservation, measuring and reporting large scale water use and providing for a range of governance approaches.
During the next four weeks, British Columbians are encouraged to share their comments through an online blog. Participants can submit their feedback on the blog, or by email, fax or post, until November 15. All input received by the deadline will be posted online.

Parkinson’s film
A documentary about living with Parkinson’s disease is being screened in Powell River next month.
Undefeated. An Intimate Portrait of Parkinson’s will be shown starting at 7 pm on Tuesday, November 5 at Max Cameron Theatre.
The 60-minute documentary features six people, including Powell River resident Hank Cummings, who share their stories of what it is like to live with the disease. It was broadcast on Global News BC1 in September, but many Powell River residents don’t have access to that channel.
The film is described as inspirational and encouraging, but also real and raw. Admission is by donation.
