Concession petition

CUPE (Canadian Union of Public Employees) Local 798 has asked City of Powell River council to consider reopening the concession at Powell River Recreation Complex. Council decided to close it at the end of the 2011-2012 hockey season as part of reducing the city’s 2012 budget.

Danielle Craigen, Local 798 president, made a presentation at the October 18 council meeting to discuss the union’s ongoing petition supporting the reopening of the concession. She said union representatives spent time at two Powell River Kings’ home games obtaining signatures and speaking to residents. “The clear message that we have gotten in this short amount of time is that the service is important to our community and valued by the residents,” she said.

The union has numerous ideas about how to operate the concession more efficiently, Craigen said, as well as different ways of operation and would like to meet with staff and elected officials about those ideas.
