Ticket overhaul

City of Powell River councillors have passed the initial readings of an updated municipal ticket information (MTI) utilization bylaw. Currently, the bylaw, which was adopted in 2003, allows officials to issue tickets for infractions against the animal control, noise control, residential backyard burning and fire prevention bylaws. The MTI describes the specific offence and related section of each bylaw violated and sets the fine for each offence.

Based on staff recommendations the new bylaw includes the building, business licence, sanitary sewer and storm drain source control, sign and zoning bylaws, as well as the fee bylaw pertaining to the street vending fee.

Setting it straight

A proposal to the federal government submitted by the City of Powell River and Tla’amin (Sliammon) First Nation about establishing an aquatic industries park requested $500,000 in the first year for start-up costs, then $2 million a year for the next nine years.
