Interim chief librarian steps forward

Powell River Library Board trustees announced they have found a solution to the pending retirement of Charlie Kregel, chief librarian.

Six months ago, Kregel informed the board of his intent to retire by the end of September 2014. The board announced in a press release, September 10, that it has hired Terry Noreault to the post of interim chief librarian for up to one year beginning October 1.

Noreault is currently network and systems administrator for the library. In his new capacity he will manage all aspects of the library operation, implement the policies of the board and continue to work on initiatives identified in its strategic plan. He will also work with the board to continue the search for a permanent chief librarian.

Noreault is semi-retired, so taking on his new role is a commitment for which the board is very grateful. “He knows our library and most of our staff and is more than conversant with the new library project,” read the press release. “He has broad technological knowledge and experience. Terry is deeply engaged in our community through his participation in the Rotary Club and other activities.”

The board believes “Terry will be a safe pair of hands to get us through this transitional period.”
