Run-of-river studies
Powell River Regional District directors voted to advise the provincial government that the regional district has no objection to the application by Klahoose Shellfish Inc. for a two-year investigative use permit to conduct stream flow measurements on Boyle Creek in support of its intention to establish a run-of-river project. Boyle Creek is located east of the Klahoose First Nation reserve at the head of Toba Inlet.
Park mowers
Directors voted to purchase two mowers from North Island Tractor for use at Craig and Palm Beach parks. One tractor/mower is $8,095 and the other is $4,850.
Contracts
Directors awarded the following contracts: $32,000 to Joe Huetzelman and Company to construct a maintenance building at Craig Park; $28,200 to Westcoast Endeavours Ltd. to construct the Lund sewer treatment plant primary flow equalization tank; and $11,646 to Best Bulldozing Ltd. to clear the site for the Northside Volunteer Fire Department hall.
Fare increase
Directors endorsed a 25-cent fare increase for paratransit service in zones two and three, as proposed by BC Transit. Directors also approved the 2011-2012 annual operating agreement for current service between BC Transit, the regional district and Powell River Taxi 2001.
Assistant to fire commissioner
Directors passed a motion to request the BC Fire Commissioner’s Office appoint Jim Brown, Northside Volunteer Fire Department chief, as a local assistant to the fire commissioner.
Contract renewals
Directors renewed the following contracts: Savary Island dock caretaker contract with CTM Contracting for a two-year term at an annual fee not to exceed $9,000; and the Texada recreation facilities maintenance contract with Brenda Campbell for one year, with a five per cent increase in fees.
Street lighting
Directors endorsed BC Hydro’s intention to replace drop-lens lights with flat lights in electoral areas, provided the ministry of transportation and infrastructure is satisfied that the associated distribution of light on the roadway will not impact public safety.
