Directors pave way to purchase vehicle
Powell River Regional District’s board of directors has approved expenditure for the purchase of a truck for Northside Volunteer Fire Department.
At the board’s April 23 meeting, directors unanimously carried a recommendation from the rural services committee to approve the purchase of a water tender for the Northside Volunteer Fire Department.
The motion stipulates the short-term borrowing of $100,060 from the Municipal Finance Authority, to be repaid over a period of five years, with annual payments of $21,500 in years 2016 through 2020. If the costs exceed the $125,000 budget, the board will approve a budget amendment to reallocate funds from other planned capital work. Staff will proceed with the purchase if the total costs are within the Northside Volunteer Fire Department’s total 2015 capital budget of $143,500.
Airport initiatives
The regional board concurs with the recommendation of the rural services committee to endorse the resolutions contained within Texada Airport Advisory Committee’s March 31 meeting minutes. The first resolution is that an assessment of the capital assets at the airport be completed for the purpose of developing a capital asset management plan. The second is to waive the lease engagement fee of $1,000 to the Texada Arts, Culture and Tourism Society for the purpose of the not-for-profit aerospace camp.
Fraud scrutiny
Directors have sanctioned the recommendation of the committee of the whole to advise Powell River Regional District’s auditors, BDO Dunwoody, that the board and its members are unaware of any fraud occurring during 2014 or to date in 2015, and that the board does not consider there to be any substantial risk of fraud in future regional district operations. Directors carried the motion unanimously.
Absorbs rent
Directors have concurred with a recommendation from the April 16 committee of the whole meeting to waive the assessed commercial rent of $500 to Paradise Exhibition Park Society and absorb it in the annual operating budget for Paradise Exhibition Park. Directors voted unanimously in favour of waiving the rent.
Waives fee
Consideration was given to a tipping fee waiver for Active Malaspina Mariculture Association. The recommendation from committee of the whole, April 9, was that the board concur to waive the tipping fees for garbage delivered to the Augusta Recyclers’ transfer site as part of the Active Malaspina Mariculture Association’s annual cleanup of the Malaspina / Okeover area. The board carried the motion.
