Directors grant assistance

Powell River Regional District directors approved a $7,976 grant-in-aid to Myrtle Point Golf Club for 2013 and endorsed a $3,500 grant to Powell River Therapeutic Riding Association to help fund equipment purchases.

Grant application

Directors voted to direct staff to submit a Community Infrastructure Improvement Fund grant application to Western Economic Diversification Canada in the amount of $250,000 for upgrades to the Savary Island dock. The estimated cost of repairs to the dock is just under $500,000. The grant program provides 50 per cent funding for eligible projects.

Savary forest

Directors passed a motion to send a letter to the Savary Island Land Trust Society in support of its purchase of the property known as the Johnson forest on Savary Island.

Shelter Point

Directors voted to direct staff to open discussions with Tla’amin (Sliammon) First Nation about a possible partnership on the design and construction of a new community gathering place structure at Shelter Point on Texada Island.

Letter reply

Directors passed a motion to send a letter to David Moore and other signatories explaining that the board will consider establishing a citizens’ advisory committee during future official community plan (OCP) processes. Moore and eight other residents outlined concerns about the southern region and Area B OCP processes in a letter dated September 17, 2012.
